After learning the mantis boxing of Master Liang Xuexiang, Hao Lianru took his new found knowledge and created forms that are unique to the Hao family of mantis boxing. Zhi Lu or “Points to the Road” is one of Master Hao’s creations and serves as an introduction to the movements and theories of Hao family Taiji Meihua Tanglangquan.
Jiang Hualong and Song Zide were martial brothers of Hao Lianru under Master Liang Xuexiang. After completing their training with Master Liang, Jiang and Song together established the Zhao Ge Zhuang Tanglangquan Wuguan in the town of Laiyang, Shandong province. During their time teaching together they created the mantis form, Mei Hua Lu or "Plum Flower Road".
Master Hao took sections from Jiang and Song’s new form to create his own new form. This is quite apparent since the end of the second line and the entirety of the third line in “Points to the Road” are a copy of the end of the first line and most of the second line in "Plum Flower Road". Further, the last three moves found at the end of line four of “Points to the Road” are found at the end of line two in "Plum Flower Road”.
Here are the fist poems used for the movements that the two sets have in common:
鳳 凰 三 點 頭 Phoenix Pecks Three Times
Mandarin Duck Kick Before Leaving
Turn Body, Revolve Horse Whip
Right Pluck, Meeting the Face Circle
Separate Elbow is Concealed Below
Right Threatening Strike, Overturn Yang Palm
Revolve the Horse Whip
Left Pluck, Meeting the Face Circle
Separate Elbow is Concealed Below
Capture & Hold, Eye Assault, Chop Waist
Steal Open, Millstone Strike to Middle Hall
Coiling Dragon Mouth Locking, Lifting Yin Kick
Split Open Center Gate, Push Down on Top
