Wang Lang is the legendary founder of the Northern Chinese styles of Praying Mantis Boxing or Tanglang Quan. The art was introduced near the end of the Ming dynasty and the beginning of the Qing dynasty in the 17th century. Wang Lang fashioned his kung fu on the attributes and predatory actions of the praying mantis insect. “In the beginning mantis boxing was mainly spread in the towns of Laiyang and Haiyang, Yantai city district, Shandong province, China. Later it spread throughout China and the rest of the world. Supreme Ultimate Plum Blossom Mantis Boxing (taiji meihua tanglang quan), Supreme Ultimate Mantis Boxing (taiji tanglang quan), Seven Stars Mantis Boxing (qixing tanglang quan), and Six Harmonies Mantis .Boxing (liuhe tanglang quan) are the four old schools of mantis boxing.” www.sundeyao.com/history/More about Northern Praying Mantis Kung Fu's History.
